Many passengers arrived at the airport early this morning to find it in darkness, and were unable to check in.
The airport is investigating the cause of the power failure, but it is thought to be a small fire in a control room. The power came back on at 6am, but the airport was still not running as normal by 9am, as several systems – including the baggage carousel – were not working.
An airport spokesman confirmed that bags were being checked in manually and three flights had left without luggage.
Twenty five flights were delayed this morning, and the spokesman warned that delays would continue for the rest of the day.
