Britain is bracing itself for a sub zero spell next week, as severe frosts and bitter temperatures as low as -15C are expected.

Temperatures will stay below zero across the country with northern and eastern parts of the UK are braced for the coldest temperatures. The Lake District could experience lows of -10C in the middle of next week, while temperatures as low as -15C are likely in the Scottish Highlands reports The Telegraph.

Icy gales of up to 45mph will cause parts of Britain to feel bitterly cold said weather forecasters, and up to four inches of snow has been predicted to fall across much of Britain, including the south east, from Tuesday onwards.

Met Office severe weather warnings for ice were in place across most of the UK this morning, with only the South West and the western coast expected to avoid the worst of the weather.
