Britain’s Got Talent winner, Jai McDowall admitted to ITV’s Daybreak presenters that his shock Victory, beating Ronan Parke, had still not sunk in.

Speaking to Kate Garraway and Adrian Chiles about being crowned BGT winner on Saturday night, he said: “It’s still very surreal for me. From then till now it’s been a whirlwind and such an emotional rollercoaster.

The 24 year old, from Tarbolton, Ayrshire, narrowly beat off tough competition from Parke and boyband New Bounce to take the £100,000 prize, but he admitted the win came with mixed emotions.

“It’s such a weird feeling because when we got into the final, we all became quite friendly… You’re almost willing everyone else on as well as yourself.

“If Ronan had won it would have been great as well. It’s such a strange scenario to be in but I was so proud of him at what he’s done, at his age, he’s a great wee guy. He’ll do well, he will.”

McDowall is probably right, since Ronan is believed to be set to sign a deal with SYCO and is tipped to earn £1.5m

McDowall beat Parke by just 2.5 per cent of the vote on Britain’s Got Talent on Saturday night.

His unlikely victory, watched by 14.4 million viewers came amid a ‘fix’ storm backlash.

Simon Cowell was forced to deny online allegations that 12-year-old Ronan had been groomed for stardom over the past two years and was already signed to his Syco label.

Despite his loss, Ronan took his defeat gracefully, telling the audience, “I’ve loved it. I would like to say thank you toe everyone who voted. Thank you so much. Congratulations, Jai as well.”

McDowall admitted he is extremely excited to now embark on the Britain’s Got Talent tour, for which rehearsals will begin this week.

Beyond that, the singer hasn’t quite had the time to think about his future plans, but he’lI be taking some time out to work on an extra special performance for the Queen at the Royal Variety Performance.

He may have been dubbed the new Susan Boyle and been likened to a host of powerful male singers, but Jai McDowall is determined to become famous in his own right. He said: “I have been linked to the likes of Josh Grobin etc. but I would like to be known as me.”
