The 71-year-old passed away on Tuesday night with his family by his side following a bout of pneumonia.

In a statement, his wife Linda and children Rosa, Alex, Jack and Sarah said: “We are devastated by the loss of our beloved Bob.

“Thank you for your messages of love and support.”

Hoskins won several awards for his work, most notably crime drama Mona Lisa, for which he received a BAFTA and a Golden Globe, as well as a best supporting actor Oscar nomination.

In 2012, after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, he retired from acting.
