A country-wide snowman building effort is required in many areas of the UK where snow has built up over the last week. Compacted snow thaws slowly and with reports of flooded roads in some parts of the country, citizens have been given the unusual request by government officials.

“Ideally if everybody built themselves a snowman it will slow the thaw down a bit,” said Roy Stokes of the Environment Agency.

“If you notice when people clear their drive the snow thaws away but the compacted piles stay.

“That would give a balanced thaw which would be helpful.”

S’no joke – people of Britain, go forth and populate our white and pleasant land with snow soldiers

Sadly, Roy Stoke’s patriotic advice was later overruled by a spokeswoman from the Environment Agency, who said: “…while building snowmen is great fun, sadly it is unlikely to make a significant difference to the overall rate at which the snow melts across the country and won’t protect your home from flooding.”

Two men in had to be rescued this week from a flooded road in Corfe Castle, Dorset, when a road was submerged under 4 feet of melted snow water.

According to the Mirror, the men became stranded in their vehicle and had to be rescued via an inflatable craft by a local fire and rescue crew.

“By Friday there will be a mixture of rain and snow, and as temperatures push up back to normal and snow melts, the risk of flooding is expected in some areas by the end of the weekend.” said Helen Chivers of the Met Office.
