Well, don’t worry you can ignore all that, because here’s the biggest news from today’s budget ahead of the announcement: The 6p rise in beer duty has been shelved.

The Chancellor is also set to abolish the beer duty escalator, which should rule out further rises above inflation.

The measure will be one of a very few glimmers of hope for those living in the UK, as government spending is set to be slashed again due to slow growth.

The beer duty escalator added two per cent on top of inflation and meant that over a third of the price of a pint went straight to taxman.

Other areas of alcohol duty have yet to be announced, with tax on super-strength lager and cider set to go up.

The Chancellor also revealed that all working parents earning up to £150k each would qualify for a childcare allowance of up to £1200 a year.
