Chris Cameron, 26 – who is a British heavyweight champion of Brazilian jiu-jitsu – saved the 16-year-old when she jumped aboard his bus to escape her attacker.
As she locked herself in the driver’s cabin of the 366 service, Cameron – who is a formidable 6’2” tall and weighs 17 stone – marched the attacker from his vehicle and waited at the bus stop until police arrived.
Mario Miller, 19, was jailed for four months over the attack on July 14 last year, after pleading guilty to assault.
Others bus drivers who received accolades included Dennis Holligan, Steve Ryan and Kevin Salter, who were commended for their actions during the London riots last August. Their buses were attacked by rioters, but they managed to drive their passengers to safety.
