My job involves… successfully running my international property development company – Lux Reality – which specialises in building designer homes, with a focus on redeveloping and refurbishing properties across London. Every day is different for me. I could be at an auction buying my next project, on site resolving any problems my team of builders may have, or helping my architect to design the next Lux Reality home.
The most rewarding part of my job is… how varied it is and that no two days are the same. It is exciting to have your problem solving skills tested, as you never know what you are going to be faced with. I also love the process of having a vision for a project and seeing it become a reality, providing a home for someone to live in and enjoy. My job also gives me flexibility to do lots of different things, from commenting on live television news about the property market, to going into schools and talking to young adults about how to become an entrepreneur, something that I am very passionate about.
The most demanding part of my job is… never switching off and working 24/7, even on holiday. The job never stops. Everyone that runs their own business knows that you are always on call and constantly thinking about new ideas for current and future projects. However, I love what I do so it is never a hardship.
My advice for anyone looking to get into this industry is… to start with developing a watertight business plan by studying the market extensively and finding opportunities where others have not. Stick to your budget and never get carried away by rushing to purchase a property that you are unsure about. Be aware of sudden changes and economic news that could affect the market. There can be good times to invest but sometimes it is better to sit tight. Stick to your vision and determination and, most importantly, never give up.
