What do you do?

I look after the elderly. I visit my clients in their homes to help them with everyday tasks that they can no longer manage alone, such as getting ready for the day, bathing, picking out their clothes and doing the shopping.  I also help them cook, often if they’re expecting guests. Sometimes I’m able to to go on outings to the theatre, park or museums with them.

What is the best bit?

I feel immense satisfaction from being able to help my clients and improve their quality of life. I also love sharing stories and hearing amazing tales about the colourful and varied lives they have led. The flexibility and money I earn through Patricia White’s also means I can travel and I can choose how much work I take on.

What is the worst bit?

It’s very sad when some of my older clients who have I grown close to pass away, but you have to remain professional.

What qualifications/experience do you have?

When I was in school I worked part time in a dementia home and then when I came to the UK I found my job through Patricia White’s. You must be kind, patient and happy to help others.

What advice would you give someone who would like a job such as yours?

If you have no experience, do some volunteer work with the elderly. This will help you decide if you enjoy the work. If you’re experienced, let Patricia White’s know, because they will be able to find you a job very quickly.
