If Cheryl Cole was dropped from the US X Factor because of her Geordie accent then she may be comforted to hear that Russell Brand has been sticking up for her and has slated Americans for not paying enough attention.
Discussing the ditching of Cheryl Cole to make way for Nicole Scherzinger as a judge on US X Factor, Brand pronounced Chezza “Britain’s sweetheart.”
“Our Cheryl? That cannae be right! Our Cheryl, kicked off X Factor? What, the American one?” Brand said on ITV’s Daybreak.
“And I’ve come to this country in good faith and they’ve kicked Cheryl off, our Cheryl? Oh no! She’s Britain’s sweetheart.”

Katy Perry’s husband then suggested that Americans should simply “listen more” if they want to understand her.
“Is that what they don’t understand – the accent?” asked Brand.
“Just listen more, just listen very intently. All them things she’s saying – that’s English.”
Steve Jones, Nicole Scherzinger, L.A Reid, Paula Abdul, Simon Cowell and Cheryl Cole attend a Fox event on May 16.
Comedian Al Murray has also waded in to the Cheryl Cole X Factor furore, telling hosts Adrian Chiles and Kate Garraway:
“That’s not the special relationship, is it? Dumping our Cheryl, dumping the nation’s sweetheart.”
Perhaps Obama should get involved?
Other rumours about why Cheryl left the X Factor are flying around.
According to TMZ, Cheryl didn’t get on with Paula Abdul.
Others speculators have wondered if Cole was too boring for US audiences, who prefer more boisterous women for TV.
And more charitable sources claim that Cheryl was simply homesick and wanted to come home.
