Cheryl Cole has wowed critics in the opening episode of the US X Factor despite having been spectacularly booted off the show by Simon Cowell earlier this year.

Some critics even went as far as to say that Chezza was better than her replacement Nicole Scherzinger.

They also said Cole’s strong Geordie accent – cited as a reason for her getting axed from the show – was a turn on, not a turn off.

"Cowell has said he replaced Cole because she seemed 'bewildered,' but on a first impression, she is much more interesting than Scherzinger, if only for her fabulous Geordie accent," gushed the LA Times.

The Chicago Tribune wrote "She seemed perfectly at ease with the other judges – and perfectly easy to understand."

The New York Times went further saying that Pussycat Doll Scherzinger was “a downgrade” from Cole who “showed glimmers of being interesting."

The erstwhile Girls Aloud singer Cole was sacked from the show in May this year after Simon Cowell decided she did not have enough chemistry with fellow judge Paula Abdul and that US audiences would not be able to understand her northern accent.

Welsh host Steve Jones meanwhile came in from a drubbing from US critics who called him “utterly irrelevant” and “so far in the background, he might as well be on another network”.
