Why? They’ve posted a story (this story is being carried by the Daily Mail too we should add), which claims a Chinese tourist photographed Gollum of all people (he’s technically a hobbit right?) in the hidden valleys of Huairou in the north of Beijing.

Despite the fact he is a fictional character an unnamed holidaymaker got a snap of him seemingly searching for his “precious” while camping with some friends in the hilly region, not far from the Great Wall of China.

“I walked far away to have a pee, and suddenly saw a monster. I took a few pictures of it, but I am now terrified,” he is reported as saying.

Then they reveal the truth… And shock horror it was apparently some other fella (coincidentally also having a toilet break) filming a sci-fi film.

So it wasn’t Gollum looking for his ring then?

Shame.

For copyright reasons we’re a bit worried about showing you the offending snap, so here’s a pic of Gollum riding the New York subway instead – cos that’s more believable(!?).
