Christina Aguilera was arrested for public intoxication early yesterday morning.

The pop star was a passenger in a car driven by her boyfriend Matthew Rutler, when they were pulled over by police.

Rutler was subsequently charged with driving under the influence while 30-year-old Aguilera was taken into custody by police because “was not capable of taking care of herself” a Los Angeles police spokesman said.

When Aguilera was asked to get out of the car, “she couldn’t stand … She didn’t know where she was and she didn’t know her own address,” police said.

In such situation, arrest is routine.

Aguilera seems to have gone off the rails since she filed for divorce against her music exec Jordan Bratman in October last year.

There have since been countless reports of public drunkenness since then including her on-stage stumble at The Grammy awards recently.

“She’s a total mess,” a friend told Us Weekly. “Her drinking is out of control.”

Though police say they have “no desire to prosecute” Aguilera, her boyfriend Rutler faces a drink-driving charge.

The 25-year-old’s breathalyser reading was reportedly .09 (the legal limit is .08)
He has been released on bail.
