Delays are being caused to flights as lightning struck the Gatwick Airport control tower. The airport tower was hit by lighning at around 2.00 pm during the thunderstorms. Reports indicate that the inbound flights have not been affected while departing flights have been delayed.
Lightning is also being blamed for a fire on the 17th floor residential block in Bermondsey, in South East London where 35 firefighters were struggling to control the fire.
A spokesman of the London Fire Brigade couldn't, however, confirm the cause of the fire.
