HF Holidays is offering a six-month Walking Leader Apprenticeship with on-the-job training and the opportunity to gain the Walking Group Leader Award.

“This is the third year that we’ve offered an apprenticeship,” says Gillian Mininch, HF Holidays’ Leader Recruitment and Training Manager. “It’s a great opportunity for someone looking for experience, and can be a stepping stone to a new career in the walking and outdoors industry.

“The successful applicant is likely to be a confident moorland walker and navigator – fit, adaptable and motivated to share his or her enjoyment of walking with our guests.”

Rigorous in-house training, as well as skills-based training in conjunction with Plas y Brenin the National Mountain Centre, is provided under the scheme.

From May to October the apprentice will work alongside experienced leaders at HF Holidays’ Country Houses, leading guided walks on five days each week in some of the most scenic areas of Britain, from the Yorkshire Dales to the Brecon Beacons.

Full board accommodation, travel expenses and a small allowance are provided, and the apprentice is supported towards gaining the Walking Group Leader Award at the end of the summer.

Further information, including a person specification and application form, can be downloaded here.

The closing date for applications is February 20, 2014.  The selection process includes a telephone interview and residential assessment in March.
