After a poor showing in the winter Ashes series in Australia and the T20 triangular tournament earlier in the year with Australia and New Zealand, England regained some form with a thrilling win, culminating in Christchurch shoot-out.
New Zealand who’d chased a poor England total on the small ground in the 4th one-dayer, with a great century by Ross Taylor, then undone the hard work, in the final one-day with England bowling superbly through Warwickshire seamer Chris Woakes, Mark Wood and leg spinner Adil Rashid, reducing them to 223 all out.
With Bairstow’s swashbuckling innings of 104 off 60 balls with 9×4 and 6×6, England raced to a much needed series victory, over a team who could be series rivals to their chances of winning the 2019 world cup in England.
