The 84-year-old disgraced entertainer was sentenced in July for five years and nine months for 12 indecent assaults on four girls aged between seven or eight and 19, following a seven-week trial.

Many thought the sentence was too soft, but earlier this week UK Attorney General Jeremy Wright said he would not be seeking to appeal, despite public outcry.

According to the BBC, Harris’ lawyers have since lodged papers at the Court of Appeal and a judge will now decide if his appeal bid should progress to a full hearing.

The news comes as it emerged Scotland Yard could be considering bringing more charges against Harris, who was exposed as part of a wide-ranging police investigation set up in the wake of the Jimmy Savile abuse scandal.

Seven of the 12 counts against Harris related to a friend of his daughter Bindi.
