The voice of the UK dance music scene for the last 20 years, the impact that Pete Tong has made is immeasurable. Currently living in Los Angeles, where he hosts three club residences in Miami, LA and Las Vegas, while broadcasting on 90 different American Top 40 stations via The Evolution Beatport Show with Pete Tong, he first made his mark as an A&R at London Records. Here he signed Run DMC, before establishing London’s sub-label FFRR, which became home to Orbital, Goldie, Brand New Heavies, Frankie Knuckles, Lil Louis, Armin van Helden and more. He joined Radio 1 in 1991 and as the niche sound of electronic music become a mainstream force so too did Tong. Founding the International Music Summit, which takes place in Ibiza, Los Angeles and Singapore, these days he’s become a global ambassador for dance music, while also re-launching his FFRR label to showcase a new generation of talent from Oliver Heldens to The Magician.
Joining him is young Geordie Cristoph, who has fast become one of the UK’s most in-demand producers, firing out accomplished releases for labels including Noir, Suara, Knee Deep in Sound and VIVa. Fusing classic house sounds with modern techy influences, he’s the master of both bubbling bassline grooves and hypnotic topline melodies, making his sets a potent force.
Another hotly tipped new talent, Emanuel Satie has already ventured to the upper heights of the Beatport chart thanks to his edit of Late Nite Tuff Guy’s remix of DJ Le Roi’s classic ‘I Get Deep’ on Berlin’s Get Physical. Having also popped up on labels including Saved, VIVa, Moon Harbour and, most recently, Knee Deep In Sound with the skippy, piano house of ‘Paffo’s Riff’, his spring loaded sound has been rocking clubs from Miami to Ibiza.
Combining dance music history with the newest faces on the block, it’s a line-up fit to round off DJ Mag’s 25th anniversary celebrations in style. Here’s to the next 25 years.
