Mr. Stubbs was elected as mayor by the people of Talkeetna 15 years ago and is currently sedated under veterinary care. Oh yeah, Stubbs is a cat by the way.
With no human mayor to represent anchorage, Stubbs is really all the town of Talkeetna has got.
“He’s everybody’s guy,” said Stubbs’ owner, Lauri Stec, who manages Nagley’s General Store, where the ginger feline prowls and mingles with locals and tourists alike.
Stec, who says she knows the dog involved, has reported the attack to borough animal control officials.
Stubbs is apparently in a state of recovery, and has recently begun to sit up and eat. He had a tube inserted into his lung that was recently removed, a promising indication to recovery.
The mayor of Talkeetna has gained notoriety and captured the hearts of those outside of Alaska following the attack. The town is frequented by tourists passing through on their way to North America’s highest peak – Mount McKinley.
It is hoped that Mr. Stubbs will make a full recovery following the assassination attempt and will probably outlaw dogs in the town of Talkeetna (unverified). He has made an appeal for extra security to protect his remaining eight lives.
