Hooker Bismarck du Plessis and prop Gurthro Steenkamp have been forced out of Saturday’s test against England at Twickenham due to injuries sustained in the 14-10 victory over Scotland.

In his weekly tour injury update on Monday, team doctor, Craig Roberts, said du Plessis had sustained a grade 2 tear in his hamstring, whilst Steenkamp had sprained his ankle.

Roberts added that there were a few other niggling injuries in the squad after the Scotland test. Prop Brain Mujati has a bruised shoulder that, according to Roberts is settling well. Wing Bryan Habana took a knock to the thigh but is also responding well to treatment. Both are likely to be fit for selection.

Scrumhalf Fourie du Preez, who was forced to withdraw from the Scotland test with a strained quadriceps muscle will be assessed further by the medical team before a decision is taken on his availability.

Meanwhile, Sharks prop Jannie du Plessis, who was called up on Sunday to cover for possible withdrawals in the front row has joined the squad in London.

The team to face England will be named at 12h30 (14h30 SA time) in London on Tuesday.
