There are plenty of excellent restaurants in Bordeaux and seafood features prominently on the menu.

Check out the dining precincts around Place du Parlement and Place St-Pierre

The word Bordeaux immediately conjures up images of the wine for which the area is famous. The wine-producing districts are outside of the city — the most famous being the Médoc, in the north, and St Émilion to the east.

Make sure you include a winery visit in your itinerary.

To drink locally, head to the area around Place de la Victorie for a night out.

The tap water is safe to drink in France.
