This week there are two acts performing that have been warm ups for the likes of Pete Doherty and Rhianna.  Could these performers be the next big thing?  Check them out and let me know what you think.

Sample Answer
ThisThursday at Floripa we have Be on The Scenes showcase, which will be headlined by Sample Answer.  This Dublin born twenty something mixes up his songs with singing and rap, drawing from a number of different artists ranging from The Beatles to Jay-Z.  How is it possible you ask?  I do not know, but it is.  Not new to the scene, Sample Answer has busked and open mic’d his way into the industry and can now say he has supported such artists as Pete Doherty, Larry Love, Paddy Casey and many more.  He is a diverse performer and is able to hold an intimate crowd, or get a larger on dancing.  So come along and enjoy the fun.

Call Me Unique
All the way from Birmingham, Call-Me-Unique will be performing at Trapeze Bar on the 1 April 2015 (no joke) as the headline act to the Eureka Live open mic night. This girl mixes jazz with pop, bringing in a funked up version of scatting to each song that will get you toes tapping.  Having been one of the warm up acts for Rhianna on her Diamonds World Tour, she is well us to large crowds as much as small.  Call Me Unique, builds up a great rapport with her audience, before rolling out that smooth voice in her diverse songs.  Most are a trade.  Sometimes she nicely mixes up her style with rap and scat, as is the case with her ‘Wife’ song.

Dana Jade
This fierce singer from Trinidad is at the Underbelly on 27th March.  She and a group of gals will be rocking their way through the evening, raising funds for the Daughters of Eve.  Described as London’s funniest, feminist dance party, it will be a combination of live music and DJ’s.  Dana will be singing during the evening with her special style of punk, which has evolved from her time in her home country, New York City and London.  Although Dana has been offered contracts, she has stayed away from the main stream and wants to keep her music style and do it her own way.  If you are ready for an explosive evening, pop on down and see what you think.

As always, if you hear about any great gigs or singers and antipodeans on the circuit, contact me at gigs@music-detective.com.
