ENGELBERG BEARD-CUTTING COMPETITION
Tradition in this monastery town has it that the men sport voluminous beards around this time of year, after a hard summer working the Alps leaves them with little time to shave. The solution? Forty volunteers offer up their chins for defuzzing at this annual festival. Onlookers can enjoy music and food along with the spectacle; the newly unbearded are rewarded with presents that include little calves.
