The Enormous Elephant Run is a charity fun run with a difference – participants all dress as elephants and run, jog or walk 5 or 10K to raise funds and awareness for Africa’s elephants.
The species are being killed in alarming numbers by poachers, with one elephant killed every 15 minutes for its tusks to fuel a resurgent global demand for ivory.
An estimated 35,000 elephants are killed every year, leading prominent conservationists to warn the species could be extinct in the wild by 2025.
All monies raised from the event will go to The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, which works in Kenya to protect Africa’s wildlife. Since 1987, the DSWT has successfully hand-reared 145 elephants to be reintegrated back into the wild, and the charity operates eight anti-poaching projects and three Mobile Veterinary Units which work in the field to protect elephants from poachers.
Registration costs £32 for the 5K and £35 for the 10K, and includes an elephant suit, fundraising materials and support.
