Troops have been drafted into Cairo and other cities to deal with demonstrations and visitors are told to avoid any large gatherings, particularly in sensitive locations in Cairo, Alexandria and other Egyptian cities.
The FCO advice states: “If you become aware of any nearby protests, leave the area immediately. The location and size of demonstrations will be difficult to monitor.”
A US citizen was killed in demonstrations in Alexandria on Friday 28 June and three people were reportedly shot dead at demonstrations in Assyut and one in Beni Souef on 30 June.
There have also been more than forty rapes and sexual assaults of Egyptian and foreign women were reported at demonstrations on 30 June.
Tourist zones in the Red Sea area such as Sharm el Sheikh and Dhahab are still considered safe to travel in.
