Carefully curated by the same team for the last five years, Southern soul has garnered a reputation for delivering the world’s finest jazz, funk, soul, house and Afrobeat within a cosmopolitan, warm-hearted atmosphere. This year’s eclectic line-up includes the likes of the collaborative project R+R=NOW, which features Grammy Award-winning pianist and record producer Robert Glasper, alongside musician, rapper, singer and record producer Terrace Martin. Other acts include London-based purveyors of psychedelic soul Native Dancer, Detroit house veteran Marcellus Pittman and Panorama Bar resident Tama Sumo, as well as Southern Soul family members Lay Far, Shuya Okino, Dom Servini, Eddy Ramich, Be Good and Marko Pavlovic to name just a few.
The nearby city of Ulcinj is Montenegro’s southernmost major town offering a wide selection of hotels, bars and restaurants serving locally sourced food and drink against the visually remarkable back drop of medieval architecture while the neighbouring island of Ada Bojana and it’s 3km sandy beach is one of the premier kitesurfing and windsurfing locations.
Southern Soul provides non-stop day and night partying and there is a range of off-site accommodation options available. From beachside bijou houses, to apartments and hotels in the centre of nearby Ulcinj and good old festival campsites, there is accommodation to suit all festival goers. Getting there is just as easy! With the choice of travelling by air, bus and train or car, reaching the sunny Velika Plaza beach couldn’t be more simple.
With all three of the festivals stages spread across the Velika Plaza, a 13km stretch of idyllic beach coastline which stands amongst Montenegro’s incredible mountain landscapes carved by winding rivers and expansive wetland terrain as one of the country’s most stunning areas of natural beauty. The sand floors allow you dance barefoot and care free during Southern Soul’s combination of overpowering, music-driven hedonism, and a seemingly infinite Mediterranean beach landscape, offering the perfect middle ground between a music festival and beach holiday.
