Las Vegas Metro Police spokesperson Larry Hadfield told the Associated Press that the assailants shouted “This is a revolution” before killing the officers at Cici’s Pizza restaurant at 11.30am (7.30 BST) on Sunday.
The police department identified the deceased officers as Alyn Beck, 41, and Igor Soldo, 31. The two assailants – a man and a woman – are the only suspects at present. The motive for the shooting spree is also unknown.
“We don’t know anything about the suspects yet and are trying to learn more,” Hadfield said.
Another police spokesperson, Laura Meltzer, told Reuters that the suspects were “engaged in what is being described as a suicide pact”.
Walmart and Cici’s Pizza are working with the police as they gather information and evidence.
At a news conference Clark County Assistant Sheriff Kevin McMahill described the investigation as “very complex”, since there are over a thousand witnesses.
