As Socialist candidate Hollande stood on a podium to speak about social housing a woman ran up and pelted him with a bag of flour, apparently in protest over the French government’s failure to apply housing laws.
The flour attacker was quickly swept away by security guards who carried her from the stage by her hands and feet.
Despite being covered in powder, Hollande took things in his stride, saying later: “These are occupational hazards.”
