Some passengers were delayed at Melbourne Tullamarine Airport for several hours waiting for fog to clear as planes were diverted and others cancelled – one early-morning Tigerair flight from Sydney was diverted to Adelaide before then returning to Melbourne, and another was forced to return to Sydney before again taking off for Melbourne.
Qantas cancelled two flights for its domestic service.
Melbourne Airport tweeted: ‘Delays are expected to continue throughout the day across the network due to fog. Please check with airlines directly for more information.’
Virgin Australia reported operations resumed as normal by early Tuesday afternoon and TNT understands other airlines are back to normal too – but it would be worthwhile checking before you travel.
More fog is forecast for Wednesday.
