The moniker follows on from a British poll in 2016 to name a polar research vessel when Boaty McBoatface went viral and received 4 times the next placed suggestion in votes. However the name was seen as unsuitable for the craft which was later named the RRS David Attenborough – Boaty McBoatface was later assigned to one of the submersibles on the ship.
Jump forward to 2017 and although Boaty McBoatface came 4th in this poll, it was 5th place suggestion Ferry McFerryface which won the day.
“This one is for the kids,” said NSW Transport Minister Andrew Constance.
Other spin-offs include Australian racehorse Horsey McHorseface and Swedish Trainy McTrainface…we can see this running for some time yet!
