Talbot is a former biology teacher at the school.
Greater Manchester police have been investigating complaints against staff dating back to the Seventies and Eighties and have previously searched Talbot’s house.
“Detectives investigating reports of historic sexual abuse at Altrincham Grammar School for Boys in Trafford have arrested a 63-year-old man,” Greater Manchester police confirmed in a statement on Tuesday.
The statement said the man was held “on suspicion of three counts of indecent assault and four counts of inciting a child to commit acts of gross indecency”.
Police have not named Talbot although most major UK news sources understand he was the man being questioned.
“The offences relate to his time as a teacher at the school between the early 70s to early 80s, while the four victims were pupils,” the police said.
The Guardian quoted Detective Chief Inspector Koran Sellars, who said police have made “good progress” since claims were made to police by former students in December.
“We have made good progress with this investigation and with tracing and speaking to former pupils of Altrincham Grammar School,” he said. “However, as part of our ongoing inquiry I am eager to trace anyone who attended the school between the early 70s and 80s, who feel they may have information to assist the police investigation.”
