Four people have been taken to hospital
on Friday after an ammonia leak at a mussel processing plant in
Tauranga.

St John Ambulance treated six people at the scene for inhalation
and the four were transferred to hospital, Radio New Zealand
reported.

Another person at the scene may also need to be hospitalised.

The Fire Service said it was called to the North Island Mussel
Processors factory on Glenlyon Ave in Greerton just after 8pm. A
hazardous substances unit and four other fire appliances were
needed.

Fire fighters were using protective gas suits at the scene.
