The man appeared in court and pleaded guilty to the theft of a sleeping bag and the early charge of willful damage.
He was fined NZ$3000 for willful damage and a further NZ$1000 for the theft. The fines have been paid.
Reporters claim that he described New Zealand as “Nazi Zealand” when leaving court.
He has been ordered to report to the Christchurch police station three times a week, and is facing a review hearing on Tuesday 4 October.
