It is alleged that the two priests entered into a suicide pact after one of them was diagnosed with AIDS and then hired hitmen to kill them both.

Father Richard Piffano, 37, and Father Rafael Reatiga, 35, were found shot dead in southern Bogota in January last year.

This version of events though is disputed by the family of the deceased who claim that the two priests were victims of a robbery and have denied reports that Piffano and Reatiga were gay lovers.

The prosecutors have countered this argument by alleging that the two priests hired hitmen to murder them and make it look like a robbery.
