George Michael has been released form jail after spending four weeks in Highpoint Prison for crashing his car after smoking cannabis.

Michael served just half of his eight-week sentence and was handed his freedom today.

Ex Wham! frontman Michael was jailed on September 14 after admitting to driving under the influence of drugs and possessing two cannabis joints. Michael had been found slumped over his driving wheel in Hampstead, north London after crashing into a branch of photo store Snappy Snaps in north London.

While in jail, Michael said that staff and inmates had been kind to him, issuing a statement saying he had received “no special treatment of any kind”.

He said: “I think it’s only fair to my fans, family and friends to respond in some way, even though I will be home soon.

“In the last three weeks there have been no tears, no anxiety, no bullying, in fact not so much as a sleepless night for me.

“As far as I can tell, have received no special treatment of any kind whatsoever, unless, of course, some of the guys here are letting me win at the pool table.”

Michael was fined £1,250 as well as being given eight weeks prison time.

Rumour has it that Michael is planning a big party to celebrate his release from jail. Let’s just hope he’s not the designated driver…
