Paying tribute to the longest-serving PM in 150 years last week, Osborne called Lady Thatcher “a great prime minister – probably the greatest in our peacetime history”.

“I don’t think that we in this generation of politicians need to be unsettled by living in her shadow,” he said. “We do live in her shadow and we should just embrace it.”

“She was a great prime minister – probably the greatest in our peacetime history.”

Current PM David Cameron gave a reading in St Paul’s today and said “we’re all Thatcherites now”.
