Chindamo, now 33, murdered Lawrence, a father-of-four, outside his school in north-west London in December 1995.

48-year-old Lawrence had gone to the aid of a 13-year-old boy who was being attacked with an iron bar outside St George’s School in Maida Vale when he was stabbed through the heart.

Chindamo was jailed indefinitely following his conviction at the Old Bailey.

He was paroled in 2010 but was recalled amid accusations he had intimidated and robbed a man at a cash machine. He was later acquitted.

“We can confirm that a three-member panel of the board has directed the release of Learco Chindamo,” a spokesman for the Parole Board said.

“The decision to release is a matter for the board… We are unable to comment further on the details of this case.”
