Holman, who’s now playing in the UAE, comes into the experimental line-up for Germany-based Ben Halloran, who has a hip injury.
“Ben was under a cloud and we received some further information about his injury, which showed it was in Ben’s best interest that he was ruled out of the game,” Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglou confirmed.
“It’s a shame for Ben because he deserved the opportunity to make an impression at the camp and we will continue to watch him in the lead-up to the World Cup.
“We have brought in Brett Holman and I look forward to having Brett in the camp and for the Ecuador game.
“He has proven himself on the international stage and it will be good to get Brett into the group so he can get a feel for what we are trying to achieve.”
The team for Ecuador includes a host of youngsters, but not Lucas Neill, the axed captain who has finally found a club the form of Championship side Watford.
The squad for the match at Millwall’s home ground The Den is:
Oliver Bozanic, Tim Cahill, Jason Davidson, Ivan Franjic, Curtis Good, Brett Holman, Chris Herd, James Holland, Mile Jedinak, Brad Jones, Mitchell Langerak, Matthew Leckie, Massimo Luongo, Ryan McGowan, Matthew McKay, Mark Milligan, Tommy Oar, Tommy Rogic, Matt Ryan, Adam Sarota, Matthew Spiranovic, Dario Vidosic, Luke Wilkshire.
