Well, that’s great in theory, but what do you do if you can’t prevent the little critters from having a nibble during your nocturnal slumber?
If you’re Arizona Pamela April and Char’o Safford, you sue the hell out of the hotel chain that harboured the pests.
The two women have filed a personal injury lawsuit against Marriott Hotels, a “significant” bed bug infestation attacked them and their children in a Hickory Ridge Marriott hotel room in August 2011, according to the Chicago Tribune.
April says four days after check-in, she woke to find dried blood on her pillowcase, as well as bumps and bites all over her son’s body.
She immediately contacted a manager, and after check-out a Marriott employee contacted both women to confirm bed bugs had been found in the room they shared.
All four guests were diagnosed with having bed bug bites, according to the suit, filed in Cook County Circuit Court.
The pair is blaming Marriott for not providing clean and safe rooms for guests of the hotel and for not doing enough to solve their problem after they found the bugs.
They are looking for at least £160k in damages, plus reimbursement for their medical expenses.
The hotel is now closed.
