Where was it taken?

The Galápagos Islands.

What’s the story?

“After days of sunny weather, clouds rolling in provided the chance to snap this crab without the light reflecting off the volcanic rock and ruining the photo. Knee deep in water and one hand gripping the wharf, I finally pulled off this wicked shot. I love the contrast between the bright colours of the crab and the dark grey of the lava flow. I shot it with a large aperture (f1.7) so only the subject is in focus. The Sally Lightfoot sure does pop!”

Runner-up:

Roan Ferron from Sydney

What’s the story?

“This shot of Lake Coniston in the Lake District has an Instagram filter on it but the colours were so intense for the UK that I think it’s one of my favourites from my travels here. The light is positively Australian!”
