Why it works

Straight to the pool room, or another appropriate wall, with this beauty taken in San Juan Del Sur in Nicaragua. “I escaped here over the past winter,” Luke tells us.

“Myself and friends were practicing our best karate kicks into the hostel pool while enjoying one of the most beautiful sunsets I have ever seen.” The interaction between shadows and light, and the fact it looks like a stack of fun make this a cracker.

Paddy man

Why it works

This shot was taken in northern Vietnam at the start of June, just as the rice paddies were turning green again. Wendy tells us this young man was preparing the rice plants to be taken closer to the fields.

“We were just walking past when he looked at us (my camera is always on!),” she says. “It was a really lucky shot – many times we were too far away to take action photos of activities on the paddies.”
