Why it works
This was an “unforgettable” experience for Mandar on his honeymoon in Kodanad, in Kerala, India, famous for its elephant sanctuary. They got a tip from a local that the elephants were getting a bath and had to check it out.
“It really was heartwarming to see these majestic animals truly enjoying their time in the river,” Mandar tells us. Just capturing this moment make this shot a winner, but the framing of the gently lapping water and tree behind give the snapshot the balance it deserves.
Runner-up
Rockefeller Sunset Skyline
By Hayley Kimpton, London, United Kingdom
Why it works
Hayley snapped this classic New York skyline on her first visit to New York. Instead of the Empire State Building, she opted to head up the Rockefeller Centre and tells us she had to fight her way through the crowd to get a good spot to shoot the sunset.
“It was the highest I had ever been and the views took my breath away,” she says. “I love the colour of the sky in this photo and it will always bring back happy memories of my favourite holiday.”
