A human cannonball died yesterday after he missed a safety net during a stunt that went horribly wrong.
The human cannonball stunt was part of Scott May’s Daredevil Stuntshow at the Kent County Showground.
Families watched with horror as the cannonball stuntman, known only as Matt, hit the ground after being shot out of a cannon mounted on the back of a truck.
“He was right in front of us and had blood coming from his mouth and was out cold,” said one woman who was watching the show with her toddler.
Paramedics rushed to the scene but the man was later pronounced dead at Maidstone Hospital, Kent.
“We got a call at 3.40pm to the Kent County Showground, Detling, where a man in his twenties was suffering from traumatic injuries,” said a spokesman from the Ambulance Service.
A spokesman for Kent Police said: “A man taking part in a human cannonball event has died after it is believed a safety net failed to engage. It is not yet known for certain where the man is from, but he is thought to be in his 20s.”
The evening show was subsequently cancelled.
