Wellington households are enduring their fifth day without power, and for some there’s still no end in sight after storms hit last week.

About 30,000 homes and businesses were without electricity at the peak of the storm and 500 Wellington Electricity customers are said to be still without power, reports the New Zealand Herald.

Repair crews are working round the clock to repair damage but the electricity network is unlikely to be completely restored for at least a few more days. More than 150 extra staff have been called in from around New Zealand to help with repairs.

A statement from Wellington Electricity said:”The damage done to the electricity network is far worse than originally expected. Many of the repairs needed are extensive and take a tremendous amount of technical work.”
