Set 142 to win, the Tasmanians completely outshone the Stars and reached their target in 18.1 overs, winning by seven wickets.
Opener Tim Paine top-scored for the Hurricanes with 65 from 52 balls.
“I would have really liked to have been there at the end to really enjoy the win,” said Paine, who was run out with 15 still needed.
Ben Dunk hit 30 from 20 balls.
The Hurricanes, who finished fourth in the league standings, will play the winner of Wednesday’s semi-final between Sydney Sixes and Perth Scorchers at the SCG.
The final takes place on Friday.
It is the third time in the Big Bash’s three-year history that the Stars have been eliminated at the semi-final stage.
