Destination wedding site, MarryAbroad.co.uk, analysed its website statistics this week, to find out which world-wide destinations are leading the way for British couples, who are tying the knot overseas this year.

Chosen by George Clooney and his glamourous wife Amal Alamuddin to wed last year, Italy topped the list, with Greece in second place and the British ‘Rock’ of Gibraltar, coming in third.

Spain, Portugal,  France, Denmark, Cyprus, Morocco and Egypt claimed the remaining spots.

“Italy’s original city of love, Venice, is straight out of a movie set, with every corner offering a different romantic setting for couples. However Italy offers so many more options for weddings – for stunning backdrops for the all-important wedding photos, look at Taormina in Sicily, a castle in Tuscany, a masseria – a country house on a country estate, in Puglia or the breath-taking Amalfi Coast,” says Charlotte Hand, co-founder of MarryAbroad, of the findings.

Who marries abroad? Typically, women aged between the ages of 25-34, who live in London and like travel and movies, are interested in marrying overseas. And men most interested in getting hitched in another country, are also between the ages of 25-34, living in London and like news and sports.
