Its 2014 World Drug Report revealed Australia as leading the world in the use of ecstasy, although usage has actually been falling, and third in methamphetamines and fourth in cocaine.

The report also found a rise in demand for prescribed opioids – things like codeine or morphine – with Australia second behind the US.

‘Expert opinion points to an increase in the consumption of cannabis, cocaine, hallucinogens, and solvents and inhalants, but a decline in the use of “ecstasy”,’ the report said.

Drug-related deaths have also increased.
