The first Rowling story written for adults will be a black comedy entitled ‘The Casual Vacancy’ and focus on small town conflict in a ficitonal town called Pagford.
Rowlings publisher Little, Brown have revealed synopsis details in an official statement.
The novel promises “Rich at war with poor, teenagers at war with their parents, wives at war with their husbands, teachers at war with their pupils…Pagford is not what it first seems.”
The action kicks off following the death of a parish counciller whose contested seat turns the town to political battling.
The Casual Vacancy will be “blackly comic, thought-provoking and constantly surprising”.
The novel marks Rowling’s big move from children’s fiction to adult. She is the most successful novelist of all time – the Harry Potter series sold more than 400 million copies and inspired a massively successful film saga.
