Terry, who was capped 78 times for England, has called time on his international career ahead of today’s commencement of a four-man commission into allegations he racially abused Anton Ferdinand.
He has already been cleared of these charges in a court of law and has said the FA, who have called today’s inquiry, have made his international position untenable.
“I feel the FA, in pursuing charges against me where I have already been cleared in a court of law, have made my position with the national team untenable,” Terry said in a statement on Sunday.
Terry’s decision comes as a blow to England manager Roy Hodgson who is in the middle of the first stage of World Cup qualifiers.
