He appeared in films including Brighton Rock, The Great Escape and, of course, dinosaur blockbuster Jurassic Park, also directing several films including Gandhi, which won him two Oscars.
Prime Minister David Cameron described Lord Attenborough as “one of the greats of cinema.”
“His acting in ‘Brighton Rock’ was brilliant, his directing of ‘Gandhi’ was stunning,” he said issued a statement.
His son Michael told the BBC that he died on Sunday afternoon.
